The first time I played Pirates! was on a friend's commadore back in the early 90's. It was hard to tear myself away from it. I happily recieved the 2004 version as a gift a couple years ago and play it once in awhile for a few hours. I really enjoy the open story in the game. You are a ship captain, but what you do and how you are perceived by the world is up to you. Or you can just go where the wind takes you if want to. The variety of ships is sufficient and the combat is entertaining. The minigames leave much to be desired, but the roleplaying potential is excellent in my opinion. Good immersion.
